At 0758 UTC on May 28th 2009 inside the Gulf of Aden, a reported pirate attack occurred against a Norwegian owned bulk carrier sailing under Liberian flag.

Early this morning, suspected pirates attacked two different merchant vessels in the Gulf of Aden. A distress call was picked up by the Italian EU NAVFOR warship, MAESTRALE, which immediately sent a helicopter to the area.

This morning at 09:00hrs local time a small Dutch cargo vessel of 2500 tons was hijacked probably by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden while sailing westbound in the transit corridor. The vessel, with eight crew onboard and a cargo of coke, has now altered course towards Somalia.

A UK owned bulk carrier, carrying a load of 35.000 tons of soya, was hijacked today at first daylight in a position approximately 250 nautical miles South-West of the Seychelles. The crew is believed to be unhurt.
