Sep 29, 2016 - 12:48

During a port visit to Muscat, Oman, Operation Atalanta naval officers welcomed staff from the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) on board the EU Naval Force flagship, HNLMS Tromp.

The meeting was an opportunity for the two naval task forces to come together to strengthen their cooperation in the fight against piracy and discuss current counter-piracy efforts in the region.

CMF is a multinational naval partnership based in Bahrain.  As well as deterring and disrupting piracy, CMF’s roles also include counter-terrorism and the promotion of a safer maritime environment in the Gulf region. CMF is a key partner of the EU Naval Force Somalia, and both forces cooperate on a regular basis to ensure that the seas in the Horn of Africa are safe for all seafarers.
