Dutch Counter-Piracy Flagship Trains Bossasso Port Authorities

Sep 05, 2016 - 16:10
HNLMS Tromp, the Dutch Flagship of counter-piracy Operation Atalanta, has provided training to the Bossasso Port Authorities in Puntland, Somalia. Representatives from the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) were on hand throughout the day to answer questions and provide support.

Sailors from the Royal Netherlands Navy shared their knowledge of search procedures used when boarding a vessel and the medical team provided first-aid training to the visiting personnel.

Local Maritime Capacity Building remains an important aspect of Operation Atalanta’s counter-piracy work; increasing the capabilities and capacities of regional maritime forces helps to ensure that pirates have nowhere to hide so the safety of seafarers can be assured.

Following the training session, HNLMS Tromp returned to her counter-piracy patrols in the waters off Somalia.
