During ESPS Navarra’s visit in Port Victoria, Seychelles last week, personnel on board the Navarra trained personnel of the Seychelles Coast Guard (SCG) and Seychelles Air Force (SAF) onboard the EU NAVFOR Flagship.

Operation Atalanta provides maritime training to Seychelles Coast Guard and Seychelles Air Force mid-May 2019.

The full day of training was focused in the areas of Navigation (mostly for the SCG) and Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA). Both these areas of maritime expertise are crucial in maritime security and especially critical in a counter-piracy operation such as Operation Atalanta.

A group of Seychelles Armed Forces recruits were also welcomed on board the ESPS Navarra to enjoy a tour of the warship. The tour taught the recruits all about the purposes and capacities of the vessel. This type of Local Maritime Capacity Building plays a key role in Operation Atalanta. Enhancing the skills and capacities of our partners in the Horn of Africa ultimately greatly enhances maritime security in the region.
