On Monday 16 February the Force Commander of the EU Naval Force, Rear Admiral Jonas Haggren (Swedish Navy), paid a visit to the Spanish Air Force Maritime Patrol Aircraft Orion Detachment based in Djibouti. Rear Admiral Haggren was accompanied by a delegation from his multi-national Force Headquarters staff.
During his visit, Rear Admiral Haggren was briefed on the role of the Orion Detachment as part of the European Union’s counter-piracy Operation Atalanta off the coast of Somalia, and about the capabilities of the CASA-235 VIGMA aircraft.
