On 21st October Rear Admiral Nanclares and Rear Admiral Gregori the Deputy and Force Commanders of EU Naval Forces met with Dr. Mohammed Awadh Al-Hassan, Acting undersecretary in the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs onboard ITS Fasan.

The visit was an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation of EU NAVFOR and the Sultanate of Oman in the fight against piracy and discuss current counter-piracy efforts in the region. The Italian Ambassador to Oman, Giorgio Visett also took the opportunity to discuss ITS Fasan’s counter-piracy capabilities and the greater cooperation in suppressing acts of piracy throughout the area of operations.

This followed a wider regional engagement by the Rear Admiral Nanclares which took place earlier in Abu Dhabi with the French Rear Admiral Didier Piaton, ‘ALINDIEN’ of the French Forces in the Indian Ocean.

Rear Admiral Fabio Gregori has tactical command of Operation Atalanta warships and maritime patrol aircraft as they conduct their counter piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean. It is opportunities like this that can reinforce relationships and understanding amongst partners that remain vital in continuing successful maritime missions.
