From 22 to 26 December, EU Naval Force Flagship, ITS Carabiniere, paid her first visit to Antisiranana, Madagasacar
Having berthed, Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri and the Commanding Officer of ITS Carabiniere, Commander Francesco Saladino were warmly received by the Commander of the local Naval Base, Captain Vaohavy Andriambelonarivo Andasy, who expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the commitment and the success of the EU Naval Force’s counter-piracy operation, Atalanta.
Rear Admiral Barbieri said: “The port of Antisiranana is important for our operations in the Somali Basin and this is why I want to thank local authorities for the support they provide to the naval units during their visits to this port.”
The port visit of ITS Carabiniere was an opportunity to further strengthen the relationship between the EU Naval Force and regional states. Visits such as this contribute to the understanding of the EU Naval Force’s commitment to supporting the development of regional states and the creation of a secure maritime environment in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden.
