The Commanding Officer of ESPS Meteoro extended a warm welcome to EUNAVFOR's Force Commander, Rear Admiral Simone Malvagna, whilst on counter-piracy patrols off the coast of Somalia.

Lieutenant Commander Juan Miguel Evangelista, Commanding Officer of the Spanish Warship ESPS Meteoro, welcomed the Force Commander, Rear Admiral Simone Malvagna, on-board his ship, as the ITS Carlos Margottini rendezvoused with them on 10th May 2018. The Force Commander and his embarked staff on Margottini are coordinating the deployment of EU NAVFOR’s assets across the area of operations.

By working together and coordinating with partners such as the Combined Maritime Forces, helps to keep piracy repressed off the coast of Somalia. The integrated approach adopted by Admiral Malvagna and his deployed forces are key to building relationships and empowering regional partners to collaborate further in the fight against piracy.

After the visit, both Italian and Spanish crews wished their counterparts success and continued their counter-piracy patrols across the Western Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden and Southern Red Sea.
