EU NAVFOR thanks BNS LOUISE-MARIE after three months of operation

On the 20 January, the Belgium frigate finished as an EU NAVFOR warship after 91 days of proudly flying the European Flag.

She has been successful in all tasks assigned in the force and has always been ready for any duties and demonstrated a proactive attitude to face all challenges in order to achieve the objectives of Operation ATALANTA.

During this high tempo operational period she has spent a good deal of her time protecting the IRTC, (Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor) as well as conducting the main task of EU NAVFOR; escorting World Food Programmes and AMISOM's transports.

During the 14 November BNS LOUISE-MARIE also rescued 6 fishermen in the Gulf of Aden while patrolling the area.

In his farewell signal to the Belgium frigate, the EU NAVFOR Force Commander Juan Rodriguez stated: "I wish to congratulate you on the outstanding morale, dedication and professionalism of your ship company and air wing, which made me and my predecessor, Rear Admiral Coindreau, proud of having had them under our command. Well done."

EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EU NAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EU NAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia
