EU NAVFOR welcomes Spanish patrol craft P-77 INFANTA CRISTINA and thanks Spanish frigate F-82 VICTORIA

Yesterday 8 August, Spanish frigate F-82 VICTORIA handed over to Spanish patrol craft P-77 INFANTA CRISTINA in the area of operation.

INFANTA CRISTINA will now serve as an EU NAVFOR warship and solve all kind of tasks in the anti piracy Operation Atalanta until the 07th December.

INFANTA CRISTINA is a patrol craft of the Descubierta class, which has been in service with the Spanish Navy since the early 1980s. She has a displacement of 1,510 tons and a crew composed of 89 members.

EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and to protect vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, and to deter and disrupt piracy. EU NAVFOR also monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
