EU NAVFOR welcomes the Spanish Patrol Vessel INFANTA ELENA

On the 26 of February, Spanish Patrol Vessel P-76 INFANTA ELENA joined the EUNAVFOR Task Force 465.

SPS INFANTA ELENA will now serve as an EU NAVFOR warship as part of the counter piracy operation ATALANTA until the 20 May.Commanded by Lieutenant Commander Tomás Dolarea Fernandez, the ship and its crew are fully prepared and trained to take an active part within TF 465 and in all counter piracy operations. SPS INFANTA ELENA is a Patrol Vessel of the Descubierta class, which has been in service with the Spanish Navy since 1978. She has a displacement of 1,510 tons and a crew composed of 96 members.

EUNAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EUNAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EUNAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
