During their recent port visit to Port Victoria in the Seychelles crew members from EU Naval Force warship, FGS Bayern, provided sea training to members of the Seychelles Coast Guard (SCG) and the newly-formed Seychelles Maritime Police Unit (SMPU).  The training was conducted in cooperation with staff from EU sister mission, EUCAP Nestor.

FGS Bayern’s crew provided practical training to the SCG in the repair and maintenance of fast-rescue boats, with the training with the SMPU focusing on practical seamanship skills, such as man overboard drills.

Speaking about the training, FGS Bayern’s commanding officer, Commander Frank Fähnrich  stated “The surveillance area around the Seychelles is vast.  Maritime security forces, such as the Seychelles Coast Guard and Maritime Police Unit are vital in helping to keep the southern Indian Ocean safe from pirate attack and in securing the Seychelles national interests. I’m glad that we were able to support them.”
