On Sunday 18 August, fourteen participants along with several EUCAP Nestor trainers boarded the Dutch EU Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) Flagship HNLMS Johan de Witt in Djibouti, to embark for a one week's training course on Maritime Security. This course, the second to be organised by EUCAP Nestor, brings together participants from the Horn of Africa, including Somalia, Puntland, Galmudug, Somaliland and Djibouti. At the end of the course it is expected that participants will have increased their personal leadership skills and improved their knowledge of the legal and operational aspects of Maritime Security.
Deputy Head of Mission EUCAP Nestor, Leon Bruin, welcomed the participants on board. “I would like to welcome you on board the EU Naval Force Flagship HNLMS Johan de Witt which is an excellent platform to accommodate the Senior Maritime Security Course. I hope we can accomplish an interactive process where we can learn from each other. We are not only here to teach about maritime security, but we are here to have a fruitful interaction between the participants and instructors of EUCAP Nestor. I hope you, and the instructors as well, will create a network that we can all benefit from in the future.”
EUNAVFOR is providing a platform to support the EUCAP Nestor Senior Maritime Security Course that contributes to the further development of capacity building in Somalia, helping Somalia to become a more stable and secure nation.
