In the morning of 14 March, the EU NAVFOR French frigate FS NIVÔSE provided assistance to the MV JAHAN MONI after she was released from pirate control.

The French warship provided fresh water, food and medical assistance to the crew after a request from the vessel’s owner was received.

The merchant vessel and the 26 Bangladeshi crew members had been pirated on 5 December 2010, in the Somali Basin, approximately 1300 nautical miles East of Eyl (Somalia).

The crew were examined by Spanish medical staff and the MV JAHAN MONI is now heading for a safe port.

EUNAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
