Hijacked Panamanian Flagged VOC DAISY arrives off the coast of Somalia

EU NAVFOR can confirm that the hijacked M/V VOC DAISY has now arrived off the coast of Somalia in the vicinity of Garacad.

The VOC DAISY, with a crew of 21 Filipino, was reported hijacked on the morning of 21 April 2010 in the Gulf of Aden, 190 nautical miles East South East of Salalah, Oman.

EU NAVFOR continues to monitor the situation.

EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Programme (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia, AMISOM and to protect vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean and to deter and disrupt piracy. EU NAVFOR also monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
