On 10 February 2016, Operation Atalanta flagship, ITS Carabiniere, and South Korean warship, ROKS Choi Young, met in the Indian Ocean.

After being welcomed on board ROKS Choi Young, Operation Atalanta’s Force Commander, Rear Admiral Barbieri, was given a tour by the Task Group Commander, Captain An, Sang Min.  At the same time, a South Korean Navy delegation boarded ITS Carabiniere to see her facilities first-hand.

The visit at sea gave both crews the opportunity to demonstrate their boarding capabilities that are employed to deter and disrupt acts of piracy at sea.

Rear Admiral Barbieri highlighted the importance of sharing information between different navies operating in the area. “Operation Atalanta warships are very interested in promoting close cooperation between navies. We truly believe this is key in maintaining maritime security in the area.”
