Bosaso, 21 January 2020—In Bosaso this week, EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation ATALANTA Force Commander Commodore Jose Antonio Vizinha Mirones met with key leaders of Puntland.



The engagements included meetings with Mr. Abdimajid Samatar Mohamud, Director General of Ministry of Maritime, Ports and Maritime Crime Prevention; Colonel Mohamed Ali Hashi, Head of Bosaso Port MPU; and a representative of the Somali Police Force.



These meetings served as opportunities to introduce the Force Commander to to representatives from Puntland Security Forces and to strengthen cooperation between Operation ATALANTA and maritime security agencies in Puntland.
Commodore Vizinha Mirones expressed his utmost appreciation for the close cooperation that Puntland authorities maintain with Operation ATALANTA. He also emphasized the crucial role that Puntland authorities play in the ongoing fight against piracy and other forms of maritime crime.

"Puntland authorities and Operation ATALANTA are working together for the common good," said Commodore Vizinha Mirones.

EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation ATALANTA deters piracy and armed robbery off the Somali coast, protects World Food Programme-chartered vessels, monitors fishing activity in the region and supports others EU missions and international organisations.
