Mar 28, 2017 - 08:15
The EU Naval Force has been operating off the coast of Somalia since 2008 to deter pirate attacks.  During one of their recent patrols, Force Commander, Rear Admiral Rafael Fernández-Pintado Muñoz-Rojas, took the opportunity to cross-deck from his flagship, ESPS Galicia, to French frigate, FS Courbet to meet the commanding officer and his crew and to discuss the maritime security situation at sea.

After being welcomed on board, Rear Admiral Rafael Fernández-Pintado Muñoz-Rojas was given an operational briefing by FS Courbet’s commanding officer. Afterwards he was introduced to members of the ship’s company, including the marines who carried out the reassurance visit to the crew of Aris 13 following their recent four-day ordeal at the hands of Somali pirates.

Visits such as this help to strengthen the close cooperation that exists between EU Naval Force crews from different EU Member States.
