On Tuesday 30 June 2015, during a port visit to Djibouti, the Force Commander, Rear Admiral Alfonso Gómez Fernández de Córdoba, took the opportunity to visit Operation Atalanta and EUCAP Nestor personnel.

The visit included a call on the Support Element of Operation Atalanta (SEA), as well as the Spanish and German Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) Squadrons.

He expressed his gratitude to the staff for their professionalism and dedication in providing both essential logistical support and the intelligence picture that guides the European Union’s counter-piracy mission off the coast of Somalia.

During his visit to the EUCAP Nestor delegation, he discussed the upcoming activities and how Operation Atalanta could support its sister mission as part of the EU Comprehensive Approach to the Horn of Africa.  He also took the opportunity to thank ESPS Infanta Cristina personnel via VHF for their effort during their time deployed with Operation Atalanta. ESPS Infanta Cristina is now en route back to Spain.
