Operation Atalanta’s German Force Commander, Rear Admiral Jan Kaack, recently visited his Italian colleagues on board the Italian warship, ITS Euro.
Rear Admiral Kaack, who is based on board the Operation Atalanta flagship, FGS Bayern, took the opportunity to visit the Italian warship when the ships were in close proximity to each other conducting training exercises in the Gulf of Aden. He was welcomed on board by ITS Euro’s Commanding Officer, Commander Giuseppe Aletta.
ITS Euro has been deployed with the EU Naval Force off the coast of Somalia since 25 March 2016 and is an integral part of Operation Atalanta’s role to deter and disrupt piracy.
