During their recent port visit to Tanzania, Operation Atalanta sailors gathered together with the Mayor of Dar Es Salaam to remember those who gave their lives during the First World War.

At the cemetery for Commonwealth and German soldiers, the Operation Atalanta Force Commander, Rear Admiral Jan Kaack, together with the Mayor of Dar Es Salaam, M. Isaya Mwita, and the German Ambassador, H.E. Egon Kochanke, laid a wreath as a mark of respect.
The ceremony was followed up with a ceremony in the centre of Dar Es Salaam, where a wreath was laid to honour the memories of Askari soldiers who also lost their lives during the war.

Before leaving Tanzania to continue counter-piracy patrols in the Indian Ocean, a group of Operation Atalanta sailors carried out maintenance at the cemetery, ensuring that the graves remain in a condition that befits the memory of those lost.
