Whilst on a recent port visit to Salalah, HNLMS Tromp’s commanding officer, Commander Schipper, welcomed Captain Sun Jing Dong from Chinese warship, PLA (People’s Liberation Army) Navy Ship Handan, on board.
After a tour of the Dutch warship, Commander Schipper and Captain Sun Jing Dong discussed the strong cooperation that exists between counter-piracy naval task forces in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean.
This close cooperation is helping to suppress piracy off the coast of Somalia and ensure that seafarers and their vessels stay safe from sea-borne attacks that were common place just a few years ago.
PLAN Ship Handan is conducting counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden as part of a national Chinese task group.
