RELAMPAGO HOSTS INDIAN NAVY PERSONNEL IN DJIBOUTI

Feb 05, 2019 - 11:35
EU NAVFOR personnel have hosted representatives of the Indian Navy aboard ESPS Relampago in Djibouti. The Indian Navy is currently represented in Djibouti by the Talwar class frigate INS Trikand, which has been taking part in exercise Cutlass Express: a regional maritime security exercise in which EU NAVFOR partners have also taken part.

Cooperation with international partners is a vital part of EU NAVFOR operations, and the relationship with India is growing stronger. India has escorted vessels of the World Food Program on behalf of EU NAVFOR, and last month representatives of EU NAVFOR were hosted by the Indian Navy in Mumbai aboard the FS Cassard.

With over 10 years of ongoing counter-piracy operations in the Western Indian Ocean, the free-flow of international maritime trade has much improved, but it remains vital that this effort continues. Working with other maritime security partners is vital to continuing this success.
