Spanish Ambassadors Visit EU Naval Force Warships ESPS Galicia and ESPS Infanta Cristina

The Spanish Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Excellency Mr Miguel Angel Fernandez-Palacios Martinez, and the Spanish Ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Mr. José Eugenio Salarich Fernández-Valderrama, recently visited Spanish warships, ESPS Galicia and ESPS Infanta Cristina. The two warships are currently deployed in the Horn of Africa as part of Operation Atalanta, the European Union’s counter-piracy mission off the coast of Somalia.


His Excellency Mr Miguel Angel Fernandez-Palacios Martinez, was hosted on board ESPS Galicia alongside in Djibouti.  After being welcomed on board, the Ambassador was briefed by the EU Force Commander, Rear Admiral Alfonso Gomez, about the warship’s capabilities and the role it will play as the flagship for Operation Atalanta


His Excellency Mr José Eugenio Salarich Fernández-Valderrama visited ESPS Infanta Cristina during her port visit to Dubai.  The Ambassador was given a tour of the Upper Deck, the Bridge and Operations Room and introduced to members of the ship’s company.


Port visits such as this are an opportunity to resupply the ship with food and stores and give the crew the opportunity to take some rest and recuperation when not on-watch or duty.
