Spanish F/V FENDS off pirate attack

Early this morning an EU NAVFOR Spanish Maritime Patrol Aircraft from Djibout patrolling the Somali Basin received a distress call from Spanish F/V INTERTUNA 2 reporting that she was under attack by 4 skiffs.

The MPA closed the position to render support, reporting the incident to EU NAVFOR units in the area.
INTERTUNA 2 repelled the attack by firing warning shots from the Vessel Protection Detachment (VPD) onboard and the pirates broke off their attack. EU NAVFOR is monitoring the situation.
