Deputy Commander of EU NAVFOR, Rear Admiral Alfonso Nanclares, recently attended the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) Maritime Security Conference in Bahrain reinforcing the strong relationship that exists between these two international organisations.
Colonel Saw Shi Tat of the Singapore Navy will take command of Combined Task Force 151 (CTF-151) from the current commander, Rear Admiral Daisuke Kajimoto of the Japanese Navy, next June for a four month period. Presenting Admiral Kajimoto with an EU NAVFOR Commander’s Coin, Admiral Nanclares said: “I am delighted to be working alongside CTF-151 providing excellent counter-piracy cooperation.”
CTF-151's mission, similar to EU NAVFOR’s Op Atalanta counter-piracy mandate, is to disrupt piracy at sea and engage with regional and other partners to build capacity and improve relevant capabilities in order to protect global maritime commerce.
Admiral Nanclares also met with the Commander of CTF-150, Commodore Mal Wise of the Royal Australian Navy, on the final day of the conference, and congratulated him on the recent drugs bust conducted by HMAS Warramunga. EU NAVFOR has supported CTF-150 and CTF-151 with the refuelling and re-supply of their warships at sea, allowing operations to continue uninterrupted. This cooperation with international partners contributes to the development of maritime security in the region.
