Deputy Commander Operation ATALANTA Rear Admiral Christian Canova and newly appointed EUNAVFOR Force Commander Captain Jorge Manso paid a visit to NATO Operation Ocean Shield Force Commander, RADM Sinan Azmi Tosun, onboard his Flagship TCG Giresun.

In Djibouti on 7 December, RAdm Christian Canova FRAN, Deputy Commander EU NAVFOR, transferred six powerful outboard motors which had been confiscated from Somali pirates to Colonel Abdourahman Aden Cher, Chief of the Djiboutian Navy.

A team of 24 troops from Uganda, part of the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) received vessel protection training from French and Estonian troops in Mombasa onboard FS FLOREAL, which is operating as part of the EU NAVFOR.

On departure from the Operation ATALANTA area of operations, the Force Commander, Admiral Jugel gave the following interview:

EUNAVFOR Task Force 465 Change of Command Ceremony. The change of command ceremony between of Commander Task Force 465 Germany and Spain was held onboard EUNAVFOR Flagship, FGS BAYERN on 6 December 2011 in Djibouti.

On 03 December, EU NAVFOR welcomed the German frigate FGS LUEBCK to EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation ATALANTA.

On 27 November it was confirmed that M/V ROSALIA D’AMATO was released from pirate control and is now en route to Oman.

On 28 November HNLMS ZUIDERKRUIS, the Dutch Fast Combat Support Ship, left EU NAVFOR Operation ATALANTA to return to her home port in Den Helder.

FGS KÖLN completes a very successful deployment to EU NAVFOR

Last Wednesday, counter-piracy naval forces were presented the 2011 “Newsmaker of the Year Award” by Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region.

20 November, the  Spanish warship ESPS INFANTA CRISTINA completed operating under EUNAVFOR, after 81 days working  for Operation ATALANTA.

Pirating of M/V LIQUID VELVETOn 31 Oktober the M/V LIQUID VELVET was pirated in the Gulf of Aden and has been taken towards the Somali coast.
