Eighty eight days after joining the EU Naval Force off the coast of Somalia and having sailed over 13,600 nautical miles, the German tanker support ship, FGS Spessart, is saying goodbye to the EU’s counter-piracy operation ‘Atalanta’ off the coast of Somalia.

On Friday 29 July 2016 Rear Admiral Jonas Wikstrӧm (Swedish Navy) handed over the role of Deputy Operation Commander (DCOM) of the European Union’s counter-piracy operation off the coast of Somalia to Rear Admiral Cristobal Gonzalez-Aller (Spanish Navy).

On Tuesday 27 July 2016 the Spanish Orion Air Contingent XXV, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Rafael Saiz Quevedo, completed a successful four month deployment with Operation Atalanta off the coast of Somalia.

On 16 July 2016, the Chief of Staff (COS) of the Djiboutian Air Force, Major Ismail Abdigani Mahamad visited the Spanish Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) Detachment.
