On 11 August 2014 the new flagship of EU Naval Force ITS Andrea Doria conducted its first friendly approach in the Gulf of Aden.

On Wednesday 6 August 2014 Rear Admiral Jürgen zur Mühlen (German Navy) handed over Force Command of the EU’s counter-piracy Operation Atalanta to Rear Admiral Guido Rando (Italian Navy).

As part of her counter-piracy role within the EU Naval Force, Spanish frigate ESPS Navarra has completed an escort at sea of a World Food Programme (WFP) vessel along the coast of Somalia.

After seven months, Rear Admiral Bartolomé Bauzá (Spanish Navy) today handed over the role of Deputy Operation Commander (DCOM) of the European Union Naval Force Somalia – Operation Atalanta, to Brigadier General Dick Swijgman (Royal Netherlands Navy).

On Sunday morning 27 July a memorial service for the victims of Malaysia Airlines MH17 was held on board HNLMS De Zeven Provinciën.  The Dutch frigate is currently at sea off the coast of Somalia conducting counter-piracy patrols as part of the EU Naval Force.

On Friday 25 July 2014 the EU Force Commander, Rear Admiral Jürgen zur Mühlen, took the opportunity to visit warship, ESPS Navarra.

On Thursday 24 July the EU Naval Force flagship, German frigate FGS Brandenburg and the Japanese destroyer, JS Inazuma, met at sea in the Gulf of Aden.

Five months after departing from her home port of Las Palmas, in Spain, the  EU Naval Force Spanish Ocean Patrol Vessel (OPV), ESPS Relámpago, has completed her counter-piracy deployment with Operation Atalanta in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean.

The German EU Naval Force Maritime Patrol Reconnaissance (MPRA) Detachment in Djibouti received a welcome visit from their Squadron Commanding Officer, Captain Hans-Jörg Detlefsen, who is based in Germany.

On Tuesday 22 July 2014 Spanish frigate ESPS Navarra joined the EU Naval Force Somalia Operation Atalanta.

On Monday 14 July EU Naval Force warships FGS Brandenburg and ESPS Relampago rendezvoused with Chinese Navy ships PLANS Chang Chun and PLANS Chaohu at sea in the Gulf of Aden and carried out naval procedures together.

Combat support ship FGS Berlin which recently joined the EU Naval Force received a welcome visit from Force Commander, Rear Admiral Jürgen zur Mühlen, who commands all ships deployed at sea with EU Naval Force Somalia Operation Atalanta in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
