Today the Swedish Minister of Defence Sten Tolgfors visited EU NAVFOR’s Headquarters in Northwood United Kingdom. The Minister received a presentation on European Maritime Operation Atalanta from the EU NAVFOR Operations Commander Rear Admiral Peter Hudson and Chief of Staff Captain (N) Richard Farrington.
The Swedish Minister of Defence was impressed with the success and progress of Operation Atalanta and stated: “The EU’s first maritime operation to protect the World Food Programme and vulnerable ships from piracy is a grand success. I am proud that Sweden is a participant within EU NAVFOR and we will continue doing so in the future.”
The Operational Commander Rear Admiral Peter Hudson was pleased with the visit by the Swedish Defence Minister Sten Tolgfors and stated: “As Commander of EU NAVFOR I am delighted to host the Swedish Minister of Defence at our Headquarters. Sweden makes a most significant contribution to this very important operation that seeks to fight, deter and prevent piracy as well as assisting the delivery of vital aid to Somalia.”
