In the early hours of the morning on 6 October the German Bremen Class Frigate FGS Lübeck joined EU Naval Force Somalia Operation Atalanta. She relieved the German Joint Support Ship FGS Berlin following a few days of handover in the port of Djibouti.
The Captain of FGS Lübeck, Commander Peter Christian Semrau and his crew have been training for the deployment for several months and stated:
“After nine months of training and preparation the crew of FGS Lübeck are ready to deliver their valuable contribution to the highly successful EU Naval Force Somalia Operation Atalanta”
Cdr Semrau and his crew are looking forward to the deployment to Operation Atalanta and are excited to deliver their contribution to the mission. FGS Lübeck will take part in Operation Atalanta until February 2015 when she will be relieved by the German frigate FGS Bayern.
