On Thursday 9 April the Vice President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Danny Faure, attended the opening of the new annex to the country’s Supreme Court building.

The modern, two-story complex was built through state funding from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, as well as donations from a trust fund set up by the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia.

The new annex incorporates two large courtrooms and judges’ chambers, lawyers’ meeting rooms, witnesses’ waiting areas, as well as purpose built cells for detainees.

The opening ceremony was attended by Her Excellency, Mrs Lindsay Skoll (UK) and the Honorary Consul, Mr Albert Speers (The Netherlands).

Other stakeholders represented included the EU Naval Force and the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
