Operation Atalanta’s Force Commander Visits Spanish Maritime Patrol Detachment

Operation Atalanta’s Force Commander, Rear Admiral Jan Kaack, has visited the Spanish MPRA (Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft) Detachment deployed at the French Air Base in Djibouti.


The Commanding Officer of the Detachment, Spanish Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Rafael Saiz Quevedo, welcomed the Force Commander, who was given a tour of the Detachment’s facilities and also the Spanish Air Force P-3 aircraft.


 Rear Admiral Kaack addressed the airmen and airwomen who form the Spanish contingent in Djibouti and expressed his appreciation for the hard work they consistently display. The MPRA Detachment fly regularly to ensure an up-to-date picture of the Area of Operations is maintained, allowing Op Atalanta’s ships to be used to deter and disrupt piracy as expediently as possible.
