Rota, June 19, 2023 - The Legal Advisor (LEGAD) of EUNAVFOR ATALANTA Operation attended the 13th Annual Meeting of Human Rights and Gender Advisers held in Brussels from 7 to 9 June 2023. This event, organized jointly by MPCC, EUMS, CPCC, and ISP, provided an opportunity for CSDP Human Rights and Gender Advisers to receive updates on policy developments from the EEAS Headquarters and exchange best practices and experiences with their civilian and military counterparts.
Over the course of three days, Human Rights and Gender Advisers engaged in constructive discussions on various topics, including the Civilian CSDP Compact, the Strategic Compass for Security and Defence, and the new Operational Guidelines on Civil Society Engagement and its implementation. A session on Practical Skills Building and Handling Resistance equipped participants with valuable tools to address resistance encountered in their working environments. Moreover, the UN Office of the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict delivered a presentation, and advisers contributed with first-hand examples to the implementation of the Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) agenda.
The meeting emphasized the importance of integrating human rights and gender perspectives to enhance the operational effectiveness of both military and civilian CSDP missions and operations. The European Union's unwavering commitment to upholding these rights and advancing gender equality serves as a testament to its dedication to a just and inclusive society, both within its borders and beyond.
