Despite World Pandemic and after passed strict security protocols based on quarantine periods and testing, the EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation ATALANTA 34th FHQ started its embarked rotation on 3rd may 2020.

The AVPD (Autonomous Vessel Protection Detachment)  is an important asset to directly protect the World Food Program (WFP) and vulnerable vessels in the Horn of Africa.

Lieutenant Julio Torralba from the Spanish Navy has been deployed with ESPS Numancia for the past month and has been the link between operation Atalanta and the merchant community in its transit across the Western Indian Ocean Region.

Germany and Spain have been contributing to Operation ATALANTA since the beginning in 2008. Maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircrafts (MPRA) provide naval assets with a variety of capabilities making EU NAVFOR Somalia resilient and agile.

EU NAVFOR Somalia is eager to cooperate with actors present in the waters off the Horn of Africa and Oman has been a key partner for ATALANTA for many years.
